When Moritz Attenberger presses the shutter release, he is usually where the air is thin and the ground unstable. The Schliersee-based photographer has made an international name for himself as a specialist in outdoor, adventure, and advertising photography. What distinguishes his work from classic catalogue photography, however, is his deep roots in the subject: Attenberger was a mountaineer and skier before becoming a photographer.

His path to photography did not follow a traditional apprenticeship, but rather a passion for alpinism and a degree in Spanish literature, sociology, and communications at the LMU Munich. This academic curiosity combined with physical limit-testing shapes his perspective. He cites his travels to West Africa in the mid-2000s as one of the most important influences on his visual language today.
